2026 Commodity Outlook: Stabilization Amid Abundance
The first quarter of 2026 opens with a significant easing of global commodity pressures. According to recent World Bank data, food prices are projected to continue their downward trajectory, potentially reaching a six-year low this year. This “supply-side reset” is providing much-needed relief for global procurement teams.
Rice:
The global rice market is experiencing a historic surplus. Following the relaxation of export restrictions in India and record-breaking harvests in Vietnam, global stocks have reached an all-time high of approximately 210 million metric tons. Expect FOB (Free on Board) prices to remain under downward pressure through March.
Spices:
A mixed trend defines the spice sector. While cinnamon and pepper are maintaining steady pricing due to robust demand from the processed meat industry, cumin and turmeric are seeing a 15–20% price recovery as localized climate events in South Asia have tightened seasonal yields.
Essential Goods:
Edible oil supplies, particularly soybean oil, are surging due to record-high production in the Americas. This abundance is successfully offsetting the volatility seen in the sunflower and rapeseed oil markets.
